Double or Penelope canvas is traditionally the canvas that is used in Europe. The canvas is woven with double threads, thus creating both wide and narrow spaces. One can achieve the effect of two meshes on one canvas by using the large holes for background and design, and using the small holes for detail areas. . The continental or half-cross stitch should be used as the basketweave will not produce an even stitch.
